Viton seals
Technical seals are mainly used to prevent leaks, as well as to prevent the entry of dust or other harmful external agents.
Our products are an indispensable part of the proper operation of machines. Excessive use has a huge impact on the proper functioning of equipment, which results in constant breakdowns and, consequently, in stoppages lasting many hours.
One of the techniques we use to make seals to ensure they are 100% effective for their application and purpose is the mould method. In this method, seals are created by vulcanising carefully selected mixtures on a hydraulic press under pressure and high temperature.
The blends that we use in this process, and the wide range that we have available, allow the most demanding applications to be realised.
A noteworthy application is a fluorocarbon rubber compound that is used in the production of such a material as Viton® (registered under the trademark of DuPont Performance Elastomers). Another name under which we can find this material when looking through trade magazines or brochures is FPM, FKM.
Viton® – application
This elastomer is particularly resistant to temperatures, chemicals, atmospheric conditions and ozone. It is compatible with mineral oils, sulphur-containing greases, flame-retardant HFD fluids (based on phosphoric acid esters) and chlorinated hydrocarbons. The use of Viton® seals ensures the correct operation of multilevel systems in the harshest conditions. It is worth remembering that the product’s self-lubricating properties also speak in its favour.
Viton® sheets
– fluorocarbon rubber sheets (FKP/FPM)
We offer VITON® sheets, which are extremely resistant to many external influences and have very good chemical and heat resistance. FPM general rubber sheets are used in all branches of industry. Viton® sheets, in other words sheets made of fluorocarbon rubber, are available in various thicknesses.
In addition to fluorocarbon rubber, another Viton® application that is also worth mentioning for its outstanding mechanical properties, excellent vacuum behaviour as well as low permanent deformation under compression is the perfluorocarbon rubber compound (FFPM, FFKM) that goes by the trade names Kalrez®, Markez®, Perlast®, Parofluor®, Chemraz®, Isolast®.
FFPM (FFKM)
– Perfluoro rubber (Kalrez®)
By using special quaternary fluorinated monomers (monomers that are completely free of hydrogen) and appropriately selected components, as well as processing techniques, it is possible to obtain a product with elastic properties that are very close to PTFE in their resistance. Thanks to the exclusion of fillers in the polymer structure, the developed perfluorocarbon rubber (FFPM) seals are characterised by greater resistance to acids. However, the processing of FFKM perfluorocarbon rubber is not easy. Due to the much higher price of FFPM rubber compared to FPM rubber, the former is only used for seals with high technical and safety requirements, where other materials of this type fail or where the cost of replacing the seal and the associated downtime exceeds its value.
Among other applications, FFPM is used in:
- Aerospace industry and technology
- Manufacture of technical equipment
- Analytical and measuring equipment
- Oil production
Viton is one of the materials used in our company for production by the moulding method.
